Lake Vermilion has long been known as a quality walleye fishery. Over the last 20 years, it’s also become a premier muskie lake. Many 50-inch muskies are caught and released every year. You'll also find great crappies, perch, smallmouth bass, northern pike, and bluegills.
If you're staying at Lovgren's Guest Cabin, expect a good walleye bite off the dock thru
early June. Perch, too. A few smallmouth bass live under the dock and boat lift all summer,
but please leave those for the kids.
If you’re new to the lake, consider hiring a guide from the Lake Vermilion Guides League for a half or full day. In particular, we recommend a morning half-day trip with Cliff Wagenbach or with Rob Bryers.
Even if you're familiar with Vermilion, a guide can help. Since several guides will communicate with
each other while on the lake, your guide will quickly be able to show you where the walleyes
are most active on that particular day, given the season, water temp, weather, and
bug hatches.
